Sour cream dressing

Sour Cream Dressing: History and Variants in Latin America

Sour cream dressing is a classic sauce with its roots in European cuisine, particularly in the gastronomy of Eastern Europe, where sour cream is a fundamental ingredient. Over time, this recipe became popular in different Latin American countries, adapting to local ingredients and tastes.

In Mexico and several Central American countries, this dressing is commonly used to accompany fresh salads and light dishes, providing a creamy and slightly acidic flavor. In Argentina and Chile, although sour cream is not as common, there are similar versions that include yogurt or mayonnaise as a base.

In other Latin American countries, this dressing may have different names: in some places it is simply called "creamy dressing," while in others it is known as "sour cream sauce." Regardless of the name, its function is the same: to enhance flavors with a soft and refreshing touch.
