Shortbread walnut cookies are a traditional sweet that has accompanied many generations at various family celebrations and festivities. Their origin dates back to European recipes adapted in Latin America, where the availability of walnuts and the influence of home baking gave rise to this delicious preparation. In different Latin American countries, this cookie may be known by various names, such as "butter walnut cookies" in Mexico, or simply "walnut cookies" in countries like Argentina and Chile. This recipe is appreciated not only for its soft and crumbly texture but also for the characteristic flavor that walnuts provide, making it a perfect accompaniment for coffee or tea.
How to Make Shortbread Walnut Cookies
To begin, cream the butter with the powdered sugar and vanilla until you obtain a smooth and homogeneous mixture.
Add the flour along with the chopped walnuts, integrating all the ingredients to form a uniform dough.
Press the dough into a 23 cm springform pan, making sure to distribute it evenly.
Mark 12 tart-like portions on the dough with a fork.
Place a piece of walnut on top of each portion to decorate and add extra flavor.
Place the pan on a cookie sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 325 degrees for 40 minutes or until the surface is lightly golden.
Let it cool before removing from the pan so that it keeps its shape.
Cut into portions following the marks made previously.
Finally, store the cookies in an airtight tin container to maintain their freshness and crunchy texture.
