Pita chips are a traditional snack with roots in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. This dish, made from pita bread, has transcended borders and cultural variations to become a popular appetizer in various Latin American countries, where it is also known as "pita totopos" or simply "Arabic bread chips." Their versatility allows them to be paired with a wide variety of dips, sauces, or simply enjoyed on their own.
The origin of pita bread dates back to ancient Mesopotamia, where a flatbread was made that we now know as pita. Over time, immigrants and merchants brought this delight to the rest of the world, adapting it to local ingredients and culinary styles. In Latin America, although the term "pita" is common, the name sometimes changes depending on the country, but the concept of bread cut into triangles and baked until crispy remains.
