Honey-glazed turkey is a traditional recipe that has become especially popular during end-of-year celebrations and family festivities in various Latin American countries. Although its origin is strongly linked to American cuisine, where roasted turkey is an emblematic dish of Thanksgiving, in Latin America it has been adapted with local touches, such as the use of honey and citrus for the glaze, which provide a sweet and juicy flavor. In some countries, such as Mexico and Colombia, this dish also goes by similar names or is simply referred to as "oven-roasted turkey with honey." In Argentina and Chile, it is sometimes known as "orange turkey" due to the prominent use of orange juice and zest in its preparation.
This recipe combines the tradition of roasting turkey with the freshness and sweetness of natural ingredients that enhance its flavor, making it an ideal dish to share on special occasions. The use of herbs like sage and thyme helps to elevate its aromas, while the glaze made with honey and orange juice gives it a shiny and delicately caramelized finish.
How to Prepare Honey-Glazed Turkey
Rinse the turkey inside and out.
Dry with paper towels.
Reserve the giblets and neck for the broth.
Prepare the stuffing: mix bread crumbs, green bell pepper, onion, chicken broth, and spices.
Add orange zest and orange juice.
Fill the turkey cavity with the stuffing.
Close the openings with skewers.
Place the turkey, breast side up, on a rack in a shallow roasting pan.
Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh.
Roast the turkey, uncovered, at 325 degrees for approximately 1 hour.
For the glaze, combine butter, orange juice, and honey.
Baste the turkey several times with the glaze and the pan juices and roast for another 1 1/2 to 2 hours until the thermometer reads 180 degrees.
Remove the turkey and keep it warm.
Carve and serve.
