Its importance lies in the creativity it allows by using gelatin and other simple ingredients to bring to life a preparation that entertains both children and adults during Halloween or other seasonal celebrations.
How to Make Halloween Worms
In a bowl, combine the gelatins.
Add boiling water.
Stir until the gelatins are completely dissolved.
Refrigerate until lukewarm, approximately 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, gently pull the straws to extend them to their full length.
Place them in a tall container.
Mix the cream and food coloring with the lukewarm gelatin mixture.
Pour into the container, filling the straws.
Refrigerate until the gelatin is firm, at least 8 hours, or cover and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
Remove the straws from the container.
Separate the straws.
Run hot tap water for about 2 seconds over 3 to 4 straws at a time.
Starting from the empty ends, push the worms out of the straws with a rolling pin or use your fingers.
Place the worms on baking sheets lined with wax paper.
Cover and refrigerate until ready to use, at least 1 hour or for up to 2 days.
The worms will keep at room temperature for up to 2 hours.
