Garlic and pine nut rice

Garlic and pine nut rice is a traditional recipe that combines the simplicity of rice with the characteristic flavor of garlic and the delicacy of pine nuts. This dish has its roots in Mediterranean cuisine, where garlic is a fundamental ingredient and nuts, such as pine nuts, are used to add texture and a subtly sweet flavor. In different Latin American countries, this dish can be found under similar names, although the use of pine nuts may vary by region. For example, in Mexico and Chile it is commonly known as garlic rice or rice with garlic, while in Caribbean countries, pine nuts are sometimes substituted with other nuts, but the concept of flavoring rice with garlic is widely popular.

This dish is ideal to accompany meats, fish, or simply to be enjoyed on its own as a light and tasty meal. Its simple preparation and use of basic ingredients make it an accessible option for any kitchen.

How to Prepare Garlic and Pine Nut Rice

Remove all the cloves from the head of garlic.

Take a small saucepan and boil approximately one cup of water.

Add the garlic cloves and let them simmer for about 1 minute - drain, peel the garlic, and set aside.

In a small saucepan, melt the butter together with the olive oil over medium heat.

Reduce the temperature to low, then add the peeled garlic cloves to the butter mixture.

Stir well.

Sauté slowly over very low heat until they are tender and golden, at least 20 minutes, stirring and checking occasionally to ensure they do not burn.

Remove the cloves from the pan - pour any remaining butter into a wide skillet.

Mash the garlic well with a fork.

Heat the "garlic juices" in the wide skillet.

Incorporate the mashed garlic.

Add the cooked rice and pine nuts.

Sauté, stirring and mixing, until the rice is hot and has absorbed the butter.

Season with salt and freshly ground pepper.

Serve hot.
