Apple tea bread

Apple tea bread is a traditional preparation that has been part of home baking in several Latin American countries, especially in Mexico and Central America. Its origin dates back to European influence, where sweet breads with dried fruits and spices were common on tea tables and family celebrations. In different regions, this bread goes by various names; in some countries, it is simply known as "sweet apple bread" or "apple pudding," while in others, the recipe is adapted with local ingredients but maintains the essence of a moist and aromatic bread, ideal to accompany afternoon tea or coffee.

This bread is characterized by the combination of fresh apples and golden raisins, which provide texture and natural sweetness, complemented with spices like cinnamon and cloves. Butter and vegetable oil provide moisture, while vanilla and baking soda help enhance the flavor and give it fluffiness. Traditionally, it is baked in small pans, which allow for perfect control of the cooking point, resulting in a soft bread on the inside and slightly golden on the outside. Its preparation is ideal for those looking for a homemade and comforting option to enjoy with the family.

How to Make Apple Tea Bread

In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and butter.

Sauté the apples and raisins in a non-stick skillet until the apples are just soft, approximately 10 minutes.

Remove from heat.

Add oil, vanilla, and eggs.

Incorporate the butter mixture into the dry ingredients.

Place the mixture into 3 greased and floured 1-pound coffee cans.

Bake at 325°F for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool in the cans on a wire rack for 10 minutes.

Remove from the cans.

Let the breads cool completely.

Wrap and store overnight before slicing.
