Lasagna rolls are a delicious variation of the traditional Italian lasagna that has been adopted and adapted in various parts of Latin America. This dish consists of rolling lasagna pasta sheets with a creamy and savory filling, instead of stacking layers like in the classic version. The idea is to make portioning easier and to present a more original and practical plating.
In some Latin American countries, this dish may be known simply as "stuffed pasta rolls" or "lasagna roll-ups." Although each region usually adapts the ingredients and sauces according to their customs and availability, the base of pasta, meat, and cheeses is quite common in most recipes, maintaining the Italian essence but with a local touch.
The origin of this dish lies in Italian culinary traditions, where variations of lasagna have evolved over time to give rise to more creative and easier-to-serve preparations. Lasagna rolls offer an elegant and practical way to enjoy the classic flavors of this famous dish.
How to Prepare Lasagna Rolls
Ingredients: Ground meat, onion, egg, ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese, parsley, oregano, salt, ground pepper, mozzarella cheese, lasagna pasta, spaghetti sauce.
Steps:
Brown the ground meat in a skillet.
Drain the fat.
Add the onion and sauté until translucent.
Mix the egg, ricotta, parmesan, parsley, oregano, salt, pepper, and 1 cup of mozzarella in a bowl until well combined.
Pour about 1 cup of spaghetti sauce into the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.
Spread about 1 1/2 tablespoons of the cheese mixture and 1 tablespoon of the meat mixture onto each lasagna sheet.
Carefully roll up each sheet, starting from the short edge, jelly-roll style.
Carefully place, seam side down, in the baking dish with sauce.
Continue filling and rolling the sheets until the dish is full. A 9 x 13 inch dish can hold 15 rolls.
Cover the rolls with the remaining sauce.
Top with the remaining cup of mozzarella cheese.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
