Quick-cooking wild rice is a type of rice that combines the characteristic flavor and texture of traditional wild rice with the practicality of accelerated cooking. This rice mainly comes from North America, where the original varieties of wild rice grow in lakes and rivers of wetland areas, especially in Canada and the United States.
Unlike common white or brown rice, wild rice is not technically a rice, but rather belongs to a species of aquatic grass (Zizania palustris). It has an elongated, dark-colored grain that provides a slightly smoky flavor and a firm, chewy texture, ideal for salads, side dishes, and recipes that seek a rustic and nutritious touch.
The quick-cooking version has been pre-cooked and dehydrated to drastically reduce preparation time, going from approximately 45-60 minutes to just 10-15 minutes. This makes it an excellent option for everyday cooking, maintaining its nutritional properties but with greater ease and speed.

In different Spanish-speaking countries, wild rice may simply be known as arroz silvestre or arroz agreste, less common terms but understood in rural or traditional contexts. However, most recipes and specialized stores use the term wild rice to refer to this product.
