Description

Feijoas, also known as Brazilian guavas or pineapple guavas, are fruits native to South America, primarily from Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and northern Argentina. They belong to the Acca genus and are prized for their sweet, slightly acidic, and aromatic flavor, reminiscent of a mix between pineapple, strawberry, and mint.

These fruits have green, rough skin, which is generally not consumed, while their flesh is translucent, juicy, and contains small edible seeds. In gastronomy, feijoas are used in both sweet preparations like smoothies, jams, salads, and desserts, providing a fresh aroma and a unique flavor.

Regarding their nutritional properties, feijoas are rich in vitamin C, dietary fiber, and antioxidants, which help strengthen the immune system and improve digestion. Additionally, they contain minerals like potassium, which promotes cardiovascular health.

In different Spanish-speaking countries, feijoa may also be known as guayabo serrano or simply feijoa, although its cultivation and consumption are more common in countries of the Southern Cone.
